Step into the Vault, our collection of previously-unreleased musical odd-and-ends to hear the latest addition: the very first Van Burens song "Arnold Timber", a latin-infused jam about a tree falling on Smitty's house while he was showering. We wrote it when we all lived in Providence ten summers ago. Credit to Spitzy and Smitty for the always-great guitar work!
Join the VBs and jamtronica all-stars Tweed at Wonder Bar in Allston this Wednesday night (10.25) for an awesome evening of dance music and pre-Halloween super good times! Click the pic for FB event and more details!

Check out the Vault, our ever-expanding deep dive playlist of previously-unreleased odds and ends from the VB's entire career. It's been fun going trough all of this stuff as we're recording and writing the next batch of new VB tunes. Some of these old tracks are a bit immature and embarrassing, some are shockingly high-quality and inspiring. We'll be continually updating and rearranging the list until we run out of material, so keep checking back! Click the pic or use the 'Music' tab to listen. Here's what we got so far:
Open the Vault - Join Mr. McGee as he uses the secret password to open the mysterious vault.
Dump it In - One of many Mcgee soundscapes in the vault. Featuring our pals Waxy and Alpha over the top of an old VB band exercise.
Adults - A shimmering, time-switching PBear tune featuring Buddha on violin as well as our old pal Slowcooker and his wife Rachel on sax and flute.
The Five Senses - McGee, PBear, Pizza King, Smitty, and Spitzy each wrote a unique verse dedicated to one of the five senses. Only one sound isn't made by the human body. Can you find it?
Martin: Part I - One of the very first VB tunes is an ode to Prez MVB and his lovable VP Dick Johnson. Sweet guitar work at the end from Spitzy.
Clap Until Next Tuesday - This old performance piece written by McGee verges on the realm of high-art music made by a bunch of young beat bowls.
Catch the Van Burens for a very special Wednesday night of grooves and tunes at the wonderous Wonderbar in Allston!
Philadelphia's funktronica powerhouse, Tweed, is filling dance floors with their high-energy fusion of funk, rock, and electronica. Just as their namesake fabric of mingling colors and textures, Tweed has interwoven a psychedelic web of high energy performance and improvisation. Their collaboration can take listeners from multi-layered visions through the psyche to sweaty, raging, disco dance parties driven by their own incessant beat. With national tours, countless festival appearances, and a uniquely cohesive sound, they have proven they can bring the fun anywhere they go.

Come giggle with us! Check the vid for details and click the pic of our pal Matt Kona for tix.

Ah yes, the ride to the beautiful and tasty Soupstock fest in Shelton, CT was indeed a saucy one for the Van Buren boys. We giggled and galavanted as McGee purred our trusty steed Ruby across the asphalt tundras of New England, on a mission for tasty soup and even tastier jams. The playlist we listened to is a fun mix, featuring the latest from indy darlings Grizzly Bear and Vampire weekend, the stellar second half of Magical Mystery Tour, and top tracks from modern R&B giants Vulfpeck. Then things got silly as we went down the comedy music rabbit hole, with some Weird Al classics, They Might Be Giants, and the Bob's Burgers soundtrack. The mix closes with some of McGee's all-time fave pump-up tunes and we continued the alarming trend of pulling into gigs blasting "It's Raining Men." Give it a listen!
Our drive to play a pal's wedding on Saturday coincided with national pride day, so our playlist turned from a girl-power Lilith Fair-fest to a queer-artists-only pride parade. We rolled in to the wedding blasting "It's Raining Men" and none of us could have been prouder.
Listen to the latest episode of Seriously Seagal, the podcast in which PBear, The Brown Man, and Mr. Smitty get seriously silly breaking down all of the works of Hollywood and martial arts legend sensei Steven Seagal. In this the fifth episode of season 2, the boys lose their minds trying to figure out one of the worst motion pictures the crew has seen, 2016's "The Asian Connection." The pod is so much better than the movie, which isn't saying much, but hey give it a listen!
Happy 100th birthday to our bandmate and inspiration Jack Kennedy! Jack is always touring with the VBs, regaling us with stories of Cold War politics, his WWII heroics, beating Tricky Dick in the 1960 nailbiter election, and his unquenchable poonhoundery. Come to a VB show and you'll see #35 in the back being by far the sexiest dude onstage with jaundice. We love you, Jack....here's to 100 more!
"You don't know it, but you are full of stars." - JFK
With Max behind the wheel the gang trekked up to Harlow's in Peterborough, NH with some great Max-themed tunes in our ears. We check out Max's boy Upgrade's most recent high quality hip-hop album and paid tribute to the late Chris Cornell with some Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog. The Chris Isaak > Marc Cohn > Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow run was when PBear was toying with Max to drive him insane, but hey at least two of those songs are great! We rounded the playlist off with Max's girl Maggie Rogers going head to head with Dylan's girl Sylvan Esso and PBear's girl FKA Twigs. Give it a listen!
Many thanks to the real and spectacular crowds who came out to get truly inane with the VBs at Harlow's and the Dutch Treat this past weekend. Special thanks to the excellent End of Never for opening up the Harlow's gig and to our fabulous North Country friends for hosting our after-parties and the inevitable post-party crashes. Catch the VBs this weekend at Fury's in Dover, NH and our debut gig at the Skinny Pancake in Burlington, VT! Click for the FB events and more info:
