The Epistrophy Quintet in Cork, Ireland @ The Avenue Bar March 2007--Hey VB Nation: Recognize that sax player?!

St Patrick’s Day 2007 is an adventure that I’ll share with you at another point.  But the basic plot is the rhythm section of the band above had just returned from a 4 day trip to Amsterdam with my college crew, Pinkam and GoodHouse, and now to play the gig!  It was a grand like.

Some shots of take off and landing…

This years adventure is knee surgery in just a few hrs.

Zoinks!

Don’t worry out there, I ate spinach for breakfast and I spoke with the nurse, as well as the ‘insurance sweethearts’ over at MassHealth and luckily my plan will allow me to receive Guinness intravenously.  Thanks Romnicare!

"...will I play the Wild Rover, no ne'er, no margh"

"I'll drink to that."

Saturday the VBs are heading to the “Live Free or Die” state, for a green party of a different ilk at the East Coast’s own Amsterdam: Stonehenge.

See you on Saturday at the Barn in Bethlehem, NH

Due to my diminished bottom half, I will be drawing inspiration from those who’ve struggled and then persevered to true Rock N Roll triumph before me.  This one’s for you Lt. Dan, Slainte!

RoseBud Photos

We had a great time hanging with you at the Rosebud in Somerville, MA a couple weeks ago bringing a raucous close to Month 1 of 2012…the beginning of the end.  Hence, we wore costumes.  If this is going to be the last year on earth, the VBs sure ain’t waiting around for Halloween, or casual Fridays for those of you in the working world.

Holy Bogie

Thursday we are headed to Dartmouth College to play a Champagne Party, and then we head deep into enemy territory Friday night to perform with The Indobox at Sullivan Hall NYC.  We will hold our heads high and groove the grooviest groove while proudly singing our anthem honoring Bob Kraft’s main sqeeze: Drew Bledsoe.

The very same balcony.

My junior year of college I studied in Cork, Ireland.  I met amazing people and got to play music with a lot of them.  I was lucky enough to become friends with Darren Concannon–a great musician from Galway.  He and I would trade war stories of our childhood bands, and discuss our plans for reuniting with them after college to go for the gold.  That was 5 years ago now, and both of our groups have never been closer.  Allow me to introduce, A Band Called Wanda.

Here is a video of them playing on Balcony TV in Dublin:

Berries Blue

Hey everybody, today I thought I would share a few songs that were written across the pond in Ireland.  Here is “Berries Blue,”  with their song “Drinking to Heaven.”

I went to school with Marlene Enright and Pat Carey at University College Cork in 2006-7, the same place where I met Dick Johnson Memorial Horn Section Saxophonist, Miss Katie.  You can find Berries Blue album here!

Some of you might remember this gem from the 2006 movie “Once.”  Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová absolutely killing it.

Finally, here is a version of Aretha Franklin’s song “I Never Loved A Man, ” from 1991 film, The Commitments.  This is a must-see band movie (along with Almost Famous, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and Amadeus), so if you haven’t, get on it.  It’s Feckin Deadly.  As a preview, enjoy Maria Doyle Kennedy singing with, according to Jimmy Rabbitte, “The Hardest Working Band in Show Business.”
